Gypsy Siberians

Kitten Food, Feeding & Hydration Guide

Welcome, Gypsy Families!

As we get ready for your sweet little ones to come home, I wanted to share exactly what we feed our kittens here at Gypsy Siberians, along with our favorite treats, supplements, and feeding essentials!

Your kitten is already familiar with this routine, so we strongly recommend keeping everything the same for at least the first few months. This will help make their transition into your home as smooth and comfortable as possible while supporting healthy growth and digestion.

I've included Amazon shopping links for everything we use to make preparing for your new baby easier!

1. Dry Food β€” Available Throughout the Day

Royal Canin Mother & Babycat Dry Food

Our kittens are free-fed, meaning they have access to dry food throughout the day rather than eating only at scheduled times.

Growing Siberian kittens need plenty of calories and nutrients, so we like them to have the opportunity to eat whenever they're hungry!

Royal Canin Mother & Babycat has small, easy-to-chew kibble that's perfect for young kittens.

Important: Mother & Babycat is designed for kittens up to approximately 6 months old. After that, we recommend transitioning to Royal Canin Kitten food. Siberians are a slow-maturing breed, so we generally recommend continuing an appropriate kitten diet until around 18 months.

You will also receive coupons directly from Royal Canin that you can use toward your first order if you choose to purchase your kitten's food directly through them!

2. Wet Food β€” Every Morning

Fancy Feast Kitten Chicken PatΓ© β€” 3 oz

Every morning, our kittens receive wet food as part of their regular feeding routine.

We currently offer approximately one 3 oz can daily, adjusting portions as needed based on their age, appetite, and growth.

Wet food is an important part of their diet because it provides additional fats, calories, moisture and helps support hydration.

We recommend continuing their familiar morning wet food routine when they first arrive home. As they grow, their portions and feeding frequency may need to increase to meet their nutritional needs.

3. Our Favorite Food Toppers & Supplements

These are a few extras we use here at Gypsy Siberians to make meals more enjoyable and provide additional digestive support when appropriate!

Stella & Chewy's Freeze-Dried Chicken

Our kittens absolutely LOVE this!

We crumble a little stella chicken over their dry food to make it extra tasty and encourage them to eat. We also offer a few pieces as occasional treats throughout the day.

Firm Up! Pumpkin Powder

This is one of the digestive supplements we keep on hand!

It's a pumpkin-based supplement that provides fiber to help support healthy digestion and stool consistency.

We always mix this bag right into their dry food bag and shake it up before serving.

Purina Pro Plan FortiFlora Probiotic

We also use FortiFlora multi packets as part of our digestive support routine.

We sprinkle a little over their wet food every few days. Probiotics can be especially helpful in certain situations, such as digestive upset , stress on the body or changes in routine.

4. Hydration β€” So Important!

Keeping our Siberians properly hydrated is something we really emphasize!

Cats don't always drink as much water as we'd like, so we encourage hydration in several different ways.

ο»ΏHere's what we recommend:

  • Always use clean, filtered water from your refrigerator, a filtered water pitcher, or plain bottled drinking water.
  • Replace their drinking water with fresh water every day.
  • Offer both a stainless steel regular water bowl and a drinking fountain. Some kittens prefer still water, while others love moving water!
  • Keep water available in a few easy to access locations throughout your home.
  • Wash water bowls daily and clean fountains regularly, including replacing filters as recommended.

Our Favorite Hydration Treat β€” Churu!

A few times a week, we like to make our kittens a little hydration treat!

We blend a Churu creamy cat treat with filtered water to create a tasty, soupy treat.

Our kittens absolutely love it, and it's a fun way to encourage additional fluid intake!

Simply mix a Churu with water and serve it in a separate bowl. Always keep their regular fresh drinking water available.

5. Food & Water Bowls

We highly recommend using stainless steel bowls instead of plastic.

As your kitten grows, we also love elevated stainless steel bowls! Some larger cats find them more comfortable.

Look for bowls that are wide and shallow so your kitten has plenty of room for their whiskers.

Remember: Wash wet food bowls after every meal and water bowls daily.

6. Water Fountains

We absolutely recommend having a water fountain in addition to a regular water bowl!

Many cats enjoy drinking from moving water, and a fountain may encourage them to drink more often.

Our preference is a stainless steel fountain, as they're generally easier to keep clean than plastic.

Please remember that a fountain should never be your kitten's only water source. Always offer a regular bowl as well!

7. I'll Be Texting You Our Feeding Routine!

I will also be personally texting each of you a little video showing exactly how we prepare and serve our kittens' meals here at Gypsy Siberians!

You'll be able to see how we prepare their wet food, the portions we offer, how we serve their dry food, and which toppers and supplements we use.

I think having a visual of their everyday routine will make it so much easier for you to recreate everything at home!

A Few Important Reminders Before Your Kitten Comes Home

  • Keep their food the same when they first arrive. A new home is already a big adjustment!
  • If you decide to change foods later, gradually transition over 7–10 days.
  • Keep dry food available throughout the day while monitoring your kitten's intake and growth.
  • Continue offering wet food daily, adjusting portions and meal frequency as your kitten grows.
  • Always provide clean, fresh water in both a bowl and a fountain.
  • Wash food and water bowls regularly.
  • Introduce new treats and supplements slowly, and use only kitten-appropriate products.
  • Keep an eye on their appetite, digestion, and overall growth.

Our biggest recommendation is to keep things familiar!

Your kitten has grown up eating these foods and following this routine every day. Keeping everything consistent during those first few weeks can make a huge difference in helping them settle into their new home.

We want every Gypsy baby to have the happiest, healthiest start with their forever family, and we're always happy to answer questions along the way!

We cannot wait for you to begin this exciting new chapter with your sweet little Siberian!
