Designed to protect the queens wellbeing, reduce stress, and place our queens quality of life first , always.
At Gypsy Siberians, our breeding cats are never just part of a program, they are part of our family. Our Guardianship Program was intentionally created to give our cats the highest possible quality of life by placing them in calm, loving homes during their breeding years and beyond, while responsibly preserving the Siberian breed. Rather than housing all breeding cats together in a traditional cattery setting, we choose a guardianship based model because it is healthier, gentler, and more respectful of a cat’s emotional and hormonal needs. Through guardianship, a carefully selected family welcomes one of our exceptional Siberian girls into their home at no purchase price, under a clear, protective agreement that prioritizes the cat’s health, happiness, and long term stability. This program is built on trust, transparency, and shared values, always with the cat’s best interest at heart.
Lower stress, balanced hormones, healthier cats
Breeding cats thrive best when their environment supports both their physical and emotional wellbeing. Even in well managed catteries, the presence of multiple intact cats naturally increases hormones, stimulation, noise, and social pressure. By placing our queens in individual family homes, we are able to dramatically reduce these stressors and provide a more natural, balanced life.
Guardianship homes offer a calm, predictable environment where queens are not constantly exposed to other intact cats, breeding scents, or competition for space and attention. This reduces:
Elevated stress hormones (cortisol) ,Anxiety and overstimulation, Behavioral stress related to crowding or hierarchy and a relaxed cat is a healthier, happier cat.
Intact female cats experience strong reproductive cycles. When multiple intact cats live together, hormones can intensify, leading to:
Frequent or prolonged heat cycles
Restlessness and discomfort
Long term hormonal strain
Living as the only intact female in a home allows for more stable, manageable cycles and supports both reproductive health and emotional balance.
Cats are naturally territorial. Even with excellent care, multi cat breeding environments can create social stress. Guardianship prevents:
Overcrowding
Resource competition
Hierarchy related anxiety
Each guardian queen receives individual attention, personal space, and routine, which promotes confidence, affection, and overall well being.
Queens in guardian homes form deep, one on one bonds with their families. These secure relationships often lead to:
Increased affection and trust
Reduced stress during heat cycles
Easier transitions during pregnancy and motherhood
Many guardian families notice their queen becomes even more loving and confident as she matures.
Stress directly impacts reproductive health. Calm environments contribute to:
By reducing environmental stress before pregnancy even begins, we set each queen up for the best possible outcome.
Our guardianship model allows us to preserve the Siberian breed without sacrificing quality of life. This approach reflects our belief that ethical breeding means:
A guardian home provides a loving, indoor only family environment for one of our breeding queens while she participates in our breeding program. This is not an adoption or purchase at the start , it is a structured guardianship with the goal of permanent companionship once her breeding role is complete.
Our queens live as cherished family companions, forming deep bonds and enjoying normal home life. When her breeding journey ends, she may remain with her guardian family as a forever pet.

Guardianship can be a wonderful way to experience life with a Siberian, learn the breed’s personality and needs, and see whether this arrangement and the breed itself feels like the right long term fit for your home. For many families, guardianship offers a meaningful opportunity to enjoy and care for a Siberian before committing to a kitten, without pressure or obligation.
Gypsy Siberians retains legal ownership during the breeding program
The guardian receives the cat at no purchase price
The program length is determined by the breeder, always prioritizing the cat’s health and wellbeing
At retirement, the queen is spayed at our expense, and full ownership and pedigree permanently transfer to the guardian
While guardianship is intended to be long term, we understand that life circumstances and comfort levels can change. Guardianship offers families a meaningful way to experience life with a Siberian without pressure or obligation. If at any point the arrangement is no longer the right fit, the cat may always be returned to Gypsy Siberians. In certain cases, and when it is in the cat’s best interest, a thoughtful placement adjustment may be considered at the breeder’s discretion.
Queens are never bred consecutively
Pregnancies are carefully spaced out with rest periods
Most queens produce 2–6 litters, based on individual health and wellbeing
Once complete, the queen is spayed at our expense and may remain permanently with her guardian family
This program exists to give our cats the best of both worlds, a peaceful family home during their breeding years and a secure, loving future once their journey is complete.
Guardians provide stability and love today. In return, they gain a beautiful , spayed, retired queen to cherish for life.
No. Guardianship is different from adoption. During the breeding program, Gypsy Siberians retains legal ownership and breeding rights. Once the program is complete and the cat is spayed, full ownership permanently transfers to the guardian as a companion pet.
We do this intentionally to reduce stress, balance hormones, and improve quality of life. Living as the only intact cat in a calm family home significantly lowers stress hormones, minimizes overstimulation, and supports healthier heat cycles, pregnancies, and emotional wellbeing. This approach allows our cats to live as beloved companions first, not just breeding animals.
There is no purchase price. A refundable $750 guardianship deposit is required to ensure safety and compliance with the program, and it is returned at the end of the guardianship or if the cat is returned in good health.
While every cat is different, most queens complete their breeding career in approximately three-four years. During that time, a queen typically produces 2–6 litters, depending on her individual health, wellbeing, and suitability for breeding. There is no fixed timeline. All breeding decisions are made conservatively and always with the cat’s best interest as the priority.
Yes. The cat lives with you as a family companion, except when she temporarily returns to the breeder for heat cycles, pregnancy monitoring, birth, and kitten rearing. During those times, she stays with us until the kittens are fully weaned.
That’s completely normal. Guardianship cats often need time to adjust to a new environment. Many queens become more affectionate and confident as they mature, especially during and after motherhood. Patience and consistency are key.
Guardian families cover routine, non-breeding veterinary care, food, litter, flea prevention, and day-to-day needs. Gypsy Siberians covers all breeding-related veterinary care, genetic testing, pregnancy care, and the spay at retirement.
Insurance ensures the cat can receive prompt care if an unexpected illness or emergency occurs. It protects both the cat and the guardian family from financial stress while ensuring medical decisions are never delayed.
No. The guardian cat lives with you as a companion. Kittens are born and raised with the breeder, not in guardian homes.
No. Guardianship does not include breeding rights, co-ownership, or mentorship. All breeding decisions and care are handled exclusively by Gypsy Siberians.
If circumstances change, the cat must be returned to Gypsy Siberians. She may never be rehomed, sold, or transferred. Our priority is always ensuring the cat remains safe and loved.
Once her breeding role is complete, the queen is spayed at our expense, ownership transfers permanently to the guardian, and she remains with her family as a cherished companion for life.
Guardians must live within 1–2 hours of the Treasure Coast, Florida, so that we can meet and the cat can be safely and promptly transported for heat cycles and scheduled breeding related care without undue stress.
Guardianship is ideal for families who value responsible breeding, communication and flexibility. It’s especially well suited for those who prefer a slightly older cat, enjoy a quieter household, and appreciate a thoughtful, ethical approach to breeding.
